Benjamin and Jinho Win “Best Talk” and “Best Paper” Awards at the 2026 CSB Department Retreat !

Our department held its retreat at the Chaminade Resort near Santa Cruz CA on Sept. 9-11 2026. Over 100 department members attended, with dozens of trainee talks and posters being presented. Each year the department awards "Best Talk", "Best Paper", and "Best Poster" prizes. We're delighted to announce that the Chistol lab "cleaned up" at this year's retreat: Dr. Benjamin Duewell received the "Best Talk" prize, while Dr. Jinho Park received the "Best Paper" prize (manuscript accepted for publication in Nature, still under embargo for the next ~month).

Gheorghe Receives the NSF CAREER Award

01-Feb-2022: Gheorghe has received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award - our lab's first federal grant! It supports early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. This grant will support our lab's efforts to dissect the mysterious process or replication initiation in vertebrates. This project will also provide biotechnology training opportunities for high school teachers and students.
