Gheorghe Receives the NSF CAREER Award

Gheorghe Chistol, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Systems Biology has received the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award. This is a grant that supports early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

Gheorghe’s CAREER project is titled “Dissecting the Mechanism of Replication Initiation in Vertebrates via Single Molecule Imaging” and will study the earliest stages of DNA replication in vertebrates. Our lab will use single-molecule imaging to peer into the mysterious process that leads to the assembly of two replisomes at each origin of replication. This project also aims to support training opportunities in biotechnology for high school students.
